Why do you need an ITIN?

Choose the closest match. If more than one applies, pick the main reason — you can add detail at the end.

Please choose one so we know which rules apply to you.

Ask any provider about this If your LLC has a single foreign owner, it almost certainly has to file Form 5472 with a pro forma Form 1120 every year — separately from any tax return, and even in a year with no income, because money you put in and money you take out both count as reportable transactions. It cannot be e-filed, and the penalty for missing it is $25,000 per year. This obligation exists whether or not you ever get an ITIN. A document-certification service will not tell you about it; we check it in the free reply.
Useful for your case When a Form W-7 travels with a FIRPTA withholding certificate application, the ITIN is often issued faster than the standard timeline, because a property closing depends on it. Tell us your closing date at the end — it changes how we sequence the work.
Read this before you pay anyone For a dependent, a Certifying Acceptance Agent may only certify a passport and a civil birth certificate. Any other document — school or medical records — must be sent to the IRS as a certified copy from the issuing agency. If a provider has told you otherwise, that is not correct.
Changed rule Renewals now generally need a federal tax return attached. This was not the case a few years ago, so advice you find online is often out of date.
Worth checking first Some payers accept a Form W-8BEN without an ITIN. Before you spend anything, we check whether your payer actually requires the number — sometimes they do not.
No problem Roughly a third of the people who contact us start here. The questions that follow are enough for us to work out where you stand.

Who is applying?

Each person needs their own Form W-7. This is what determines the fee, so it is worth getting right.

Please tell us how many people are applying.

1 dependant(s)
The dependant limitation We can certify a dependant's passport and civil birth certificate in our office. Anything else has to go to the IRS as a certified copy obtained from the issuing agency — we cannot certify it, and neither can any other Acceptance Agent. We tell you exactly which route your documents take before you commit.
Fine by us We work with accountants, attorneys and employers who apply on behalf of others. The applicant still has to appear for the interview — in person or by secure video — but you can handle everything else.

Two things that decide the route

Your passport status decides whether we can keep your original document out of the mail. Your tax return status decides whether the application can be filed at all.

A valid passport is the one document that stands alone. Without it, two other documents are needed per applicant.

Please choose one — this changes the documents you will need.

Good A current passport is the only stand-alone document the IRS accepts. As a Certifying Acceptance Agent we verify it in the interview and return it to you the same day — it never goes in the post to the IRS.
This will be rejected An expired passport cannot be used, even if the photo and details still match. Renew it first, or plan on two alternative documents per applicant. Tell us which and we will send you the list that fits your country.
Still possible Without a passport you need two documents from the IRS list, at least one with a photograph. We will send you the combinations that work for your country before you spend anything.
Mixed cases are normal Those with passports take the fast route. For the others we build a document list individually. Note it at the end and we will address each applicant separately.

Most ITIN applications must be attached to a federal return. A small set of exceptions allows a Form W-7 on its own.

Please choose one — this decides whether the application can be filed.

We can do both We prepare the return and the Form W-7 together, so they match. A mismatch between the two is one of the most common reasons an application comes back. Many Acceptance Agents certify documents only and cannot touch the return — you would have to find a second person for it, and then nobody owns the result.
That works Send us the return as a PDF once we have replied. We check that it supports the W-7 before anything is filed — a quick check that saves months.
We verify this first The exceptions are real but narrow, and the supporting documents are checked strictly. A bank letter confirming an account exists is not enough — it has to state that the account is subject to IRS reporting and withholding. We confirm your exception before you pay.
That is what this check is for Nobody is expected to know this. It is the question we answer most often, and it costs you nothing to ask.

Where should we send the answer?

We reply in writing, usually within one business day. Nothing is charged and nothing is filed until you accept a written quote.

Please tell us your name.

Your country decides the documents and the timeline.

We need a working email address to send the answer.

A closing date, a filing deadline, a visa appointment. If there is one, it changes the order in which we do things.

A previous rejection, an unusual situation, a question you want answered in the reply. Plain words are fine — do not worry about the terminology.

What you are sending us

Please confirm so we both know where we stand.

Received

Thank you — we have your details.

A real person reads this, not a queue. You will have a written answer within one business day, and it will tell you plainly whether you qualify.

  1. We read your situation and check it against the IRS rules that apply to your country.
  2. You get a written assessment: whether you qualify, which documents you need, and what it costs.
  3. If you accept, we send an invoice and schedule the interview — in our office or by secure video.
  4. We certify the documents, file the Form W-7, and track it until the number arrives.
Please do not send documents yet. Wait until we have replied and told you which documents your case needs. Never send passport scans or identity documents by ordinary email — to us or to anyone else.

If it is urgent, call 972-232-7501 or message the same number on WhatsApp.

Not sent

We could not send this for you.

Something between your browser and our server did not work — it is not anything you did wrong, and your answers are safe below. Please do not retype them; send them to us one of these two ways and we will pick it up from there.

Paste them into an email to info@itincpa.com, or send them on WhatsApp to 972-232-7501. Either reaches the same person and gets the same written answer.

Still do not send documents. Your answers are all we need at this stage — no passport scans, no identity documents.
