Who needs one

An ITIN is for people who owe U.S. tax but cannot get a Social Security Number.

It is a nine-digit number the IRS issues purely for tax processing. It does not grant work authorization, immigration status, or Social Security benefits — and it does not change any of those things either.

Foreign owners of U.S. companies

You formed an LLC or corporation from abroad and now have a filing obligation, a partnership K-1, or withholding to reclaim.

Spouses and dependents

You are claimed on a U.S. return but have no SSN. Different document rules apply to dependents — we explain them before you send anything.

U.S. property sellers

FIRPTA withheld a share of your sale price. You need an ITIN to file and recover what you are owed.

Treaty benefit claimants

A tax treaty reduces your U.S. withholding, but the payer needs a number on file before they can apply it.

Nonresidents with U.S. income

Royalties, rent, scholarship or investment income that triggers a Form 1040-NR filing requirement.

Expired ITIN holders

Your number lapsed after three unused years. Renewal is the same form — and now generally requires a return attached.

The honest version

What most ITIN websites will not tell you.

Three facts that change how you should choose a provider. We would rather you read them here than discover them after paying someone.

Claim you will see everywhere

"You never have to send your passport." This is not quite true. IRS rules require a Certifying Acceptance Agent to have your original document physically in hand during the interview, even when the interview itself is by video. What you avoid is mailing your passport to the IRS, where it would sit for seven to eleven weeks. You may still need to send it to us briefly, or provide a copy certified by the issuing agency.

Rarely mentioned

For dependents, a CAA can only certify a passport or a civil birth certificate. Every other dependent document must go to the IRS as an original or an issuing-agency certified copy. If a provider promises to certify everything for your children, they are describing authority they do not have.

The deadline nobody mentions

There is no expedited processing. The IRS takes roughly seven weeks, and nine to eleven weeks between mid-January and the end of April or for applications sent from abroad. Nobody can buy speed. What a good preparer buys you is the absence of a rejection — which is where the real months are lost.

Why us

A CPA firm doing this, not an application mill.

We are the CAA, not a middleman

Temiz CPA PLLC holds the IRS Certifying Acceptance Agent agreement directly. The person who reviews your documents signs the Certificate of Accuracy. Many resellers subcontract this; ask them who signs.

We can file the return too

Most ITIN applications must have a federal tax return attached. A CAA without tax practice sends you elsewhere for that half. We prepare both, so the two documents actually agree with each other.

We tell you if you do not qualify

An ITIN requires a genuine federal tax purpose. If you do not have one, we say so at the first conversation rather than taking a fee for an application the IRS will reject.

Exception cases are our normal work

Treaty benefits, FIRPTA, mortgage interest reporting, partnership interests — the routes that let you apply without a return. Each has its own documentation list, and this is where most applications fail.

Representation if something goes wrong

As a CPA we have unlimited representation rights before the IRS. If your application is suspended or questioned, we answer it. An unlicensed preparer cannot.

Two languages, one firm

English and Turkish throughout — the call, the document review, the explanation of what the IRS letter says.

The process

Four steps, start to number in hand.

01

Eligibility check — free

You describe your situation. We confirm whether you need an ITIN, which filing route applies, and what documents yours requires.

Same day in most cases

02

Documents and video interview

We prepare Form W-7 and, where required, the federal return. The IRS requires an interview with each applicant; this can be done by video, but your original documents must be in our hands at that time.

Usually within a week of engagement

03

Certification and filing

We authenticate your documents, sign the Form W-7 (COA) Certificate of Accuracy, and submit the package to the IRS. Your originals go back to you immediately — they do not travel to the IRS.

Documents returned the same week

04

IRS processing and your number

The IRS issues the ITIN and sends a notice. We track the case and respond to any IRS correspondence on your behalf.
